What will the roster of Team USA look like?

Posted on July 6, 2012

Now that we know that the USA team won’t have one of their best point guards (Derrick Rose), one of their best shooting guards (Dwyane Wade), one of their best power forwards (Chris Bosh) and their best center (Dwight Howard) we wonder what they will look like.  There are 9 players who are for sure going to the olympics. Their names?

  • Kobe Bryant
  • LeBron James
  • Carmelo Antony
  • Kevin Durant
  • Chris Paul
  • Deron Williams
  • Kevin Love
  • Russel Westbrook
  • Tyson Chandlers

You might now these guys. They are quite well-known.

There are 3 spaces remaining and 6 players that they can choose.

Blake Griffin, Andre Iguodala, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, James Harden and the future rookie: Anthony Davis.

These are the guys I would take and why.

  1. Blake Griffin. Easy decision. They’ll need big guys in the paint. I know Blake Griffin isn’t a terrific defender but he will be a big presence for them. Without D12 or Bosh they better have some size down low.
  2. Andre Iguodala. They have GREAT attackers in Kobe, Melo, LeBron, Durant, and the list goes on. They will like a shut down defender like Iguodala.
  3. Anthony Davis. For most people, he isn’t even in the conversation for this spot, but let’s be honest. The roster right now has 1 center. Tyson Chandler and no one else. Griffin can play the 5 too, but Davis is a better deffender. He can block shots from 7 footers and can be the biggest presence in the paint.

With those guys in the roster I think team USA could greatly deffend Spain’s team, considering their main men: Rudy Fernández, Pau and Mark Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Juan Carlos Navarro and José Calderón. That in the scenario of a potential final game in the Olympics.
